FAQS
You don’t have to! CocoGoods Co. Coconut oil is perfectly suitable and stable for shelf or pantry storage for up to two years. Depending on the indoor temperature and the season, this could mean it is either a liquid or a solid.
You can visually determine if the oil is good to use. Good coconut oil has a clear white texture and virtually no smell. There is always a rancid smell to spoiled oil, which you will notice when opening the jar. The white oil will also begin to turn slightly yellow in color.
Our coconut oil is top quality and will last up to 2 years without going bad. You can safely assume that every coconut oil lasts at least a year, but a few years is the most common scenario.
Coconut oil is one of the most stable oils and is highly resistant to rancidity. It is stable because of its high proportion of saturated fats. (It is the unsaturated fats in the common seed oils that are easily oxidized and susceptible to rancidity.) Coconut oil is mild on the skin and is widely used in the tropics to protect both skin and hair from the harsh effect of the sun. Film forming qualities allow it to act as a skin moisturizer and protect against moisture loss. Its natural detergency and lathering capabilities give a double purpose as a cleansing agent for soaps and shampoos.
The fats in coconut oil have been described as ‘medium chain’ and it has been suggested that these types of fats may help people lose weight. There is weak evidence from a small number of studies that if these fats are consumed instead of other types of fats in a restricted calorie diet, this can lead to small amounts of weight loss. However, it is important to remember that the amount of medium chain fats in coconut oil is actually very small. There is better evidence for other ways to lose weight.
